Author conversation: "Get thee behind me"
Hello everyone! 👋🏽 Welcome to Booki Chatroom!
Today we're having a conversation with an author whose book immediately caught our attention.
And before we even start, I have to say… the title of this book is quite amazing
Get Thee Behind Me.
Behind you? Behind me? Behind who?
So today, we're going to find out exactly what is behind that title, what inspired the story, and what the author wants readers/children to take away from it.
We welcome Mr Tunmbi Olaleye the author of Get Thee Behind Me. Welcome to Booki Chatroom! We're really glad to have you here.”
Can you tell us "what inspired Get Thee Behind Me?”
Hello. Thank you for having me. The inspiration came from children that struggle with their behaviors. Especially when they could not help it and when nothing else that could help them works.
@tunmbiolaleye “That’s really interesting. You mentioned something that stood out to me ‘when they could not help it and when nothing else that could help them works.’
@yomijanet some times, violence against their peers, some times disobedience or even theft. And then even the rod fails at correcting these issues but rather makes them hardened.
@tunmbiolaleye There seems to be a strong connection between the story and the issue of self-control, peer pressure and behaving right. Why was all these something you wanted to address specifically in children?”
@yomijanet Essentially, the foundation of faith and morals should be laid in little children. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." We should have a christain faith journey where children get it right at young age age and not a damage-control gospel at old age.
Yes. Whatever is behind the children to act in an unruly manner have to get behind them. The takeaway on the book is how to identify the entity and fight it.
@tunmbiolaleye “huum, now that we know where the ideas came from, let's actually enter the character world.
“For someone who hasn't read the book yet, who is Joshua and What made Joshua the right character to carry this particular lesson?
@yomijanet Joshua is a boy of particular concern. Smart but have a violent approach to resolving conflicts. Anyone or anything that crosses his path get his brutal revenge. This kind of behavior is unacceptable at home and even at school.
@tunmbiolaleye “That gives us a really clear picture of Joshua. I like that he’s not just presented as a ‘bad child,’ but as a smart child struggling with something deeper. How do you think someone like Joshua can overcome these struggles in today’s world?”
if Joshua’s story could speak directly to a child who is currently struggling with anger, violence, or peer pressure, what would you want that child to hear and remember?”
@yomijanet such child should always know the battle is not from the person in front of them but rather from an unseen enemy
@yomijanet everyone needs to understand the ways of the Lord and give themselves to the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
@tunmbiolaleye “Thank you for sharing the story behind Get Thee Behind Me and for this insightful conversation.
