Do you agree women read more than men? Why? 👀

Statistic says Nigerian female students read 2.9 hrs/day vs 2.8 hrs for males.

Survey says 70% of women bought a book last year vs 66% men.

And if we're honest:
- Book clubs Lagos/PH? 80% women.
- BookTok NG? Women dey carry am.
- Romance, thriller, fantasy reviews? Women again.

Men go say "we read too, we just don't post."

Women go say "we are literally keeping reading culture alive."

So we ask:

Do you agree women read more than men in Nigeria? If YES, why? If NO, why are men not visible?

@thebookpolitics I would say women generally likes to read to gist, discuss or post aesthetics. Reading can be social to women. Men on the other hand see reading as solo work. That's why women have reading slumps and come back to reading, but men will just stop.

Nigerian women for instance carry more emotional stress, family wahala, marriage pressure, work. So books are like cheap therapy and escape. Men escape with football, betting, alcohol etc. Women mostly escape with books.

@thebookpolitics then in the education sector in recent times women are more and tend to stay longer in school and are we counting audio books as well? Then we know clearly it’s listened to by women the most. I mean I know someone lol

From my own personal notice or survey while in a bus, train or any transit i always see women reading books or listening to audio books and hardly see any man doing that
