Travel through books
Let’s travel Nigeria through books
It’s always a joy to read about places you’ve never been to, read enough to feel like you know it so well.
Can say same of Enugu due to the number of Chimamanda’s book I’ve consumed 😂
Let’s look at some of the places
1. Born on a Tuesday (Elnathan John): Northern Nigeria, in Kano and Bauchi states, following a street boy drawn into religious extremism.
2. Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe): Umuofia, a fictional Igbo village in southeastern Nigeria, in the late 1800s as colonial rule arrives.
3. Easy Motion Tourist (Leye Adenle): Lagos, a crime thriller moving through the city's nightlife and corruption.
4. Welcome to Lagos (Chibundu Onuzo): Lagos, following a group of fugitives who flee the army in the Niger Delta and start over in the city.
5. Season of Crimson Blossoms (Abubakar Adam Ibrahim): Abuja and northern Nigeria, including Hausa communities, in a story of a widow and a young drug dealer.
6. Half of a Yellow Sun (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie): Southeastern Nigeria (Nsukka, Umuahia, Enugu) and Lagos, during the Biafran War of 1967–70.
7. The Spider King's Daughter (Chibundu Onuzo): Lagos, across the class divide between the wealthy Island and the poorer mainland.
8. The Fishermen (Chigozie Obioma): Akure, Ondo State, in southwestern Nigeria, in the 1990s.
Where have to travelled to? Drop them down 👇👇
@thebookpolitics Born in Lagos, originally from Niger Delta, and I’ve also been to Kaduna and a bit of Ondo and few other states.
I’d love to visit more states and experience more of Nigeria, and I think books are a beautiful way to start exploring places before you even get there.
I do hope and plan to see some of these places in person, not just through the pages of a book! Although for some states maybe when it's safe to visit because currently menhh!😅
@thebookpolitics That'll be nice although i have a lot in mind but Oyo and Osun are the most likely before niger lol
@thebookpolitics Just remembered someone made mention to me just a few days back how she noticed lots of twins in ogun state and I know Oyo is like the home of twins and has a great history about it.
Have you read any? If not then I’d like you to😌
And do you know any you could recommend?
