Are Books Too Expensive for Gen z to Afford?
let’s face it, the hobby of reading quickly feels like a steep luxury.
Spending nothing less than 13k-52k a month.
Gen z’s are students on budget, NYSC and entry level 80 pay.
smh 🤦🏽♀️
No wonder people use PDFs, borrow, second-hand, or just watch Booktok summaries.
But printing and publishing is crazy for publishers too.
So is reading now a luxury, or do we need cheaper access like libraries, e-books, swaps?

Are Books Getting too Expensive for Gen Z to afford??
For me, if the price of a physical book is out of my budget, I’ll consider the e-book or find another way to read it. I really just want to read the book. 😂📚
But I also think priority plays a role.
Sometimes you see someone spend ₦500k on a wig but hesitate to spend ₦10k on a book. It makes you wonder, is it always that books are too expensive, or do we simply prioritize other things differently?
Of course, not everyone has the same income or financial responsibilities, so affordability is still a real issue.
Maybe we should keep asking how we can make reading more accessible while also encouraging people to prioritize learning?
